CAD for Lego Models
It seems, that there are really some kind of CAD programs to build lego models for later…
A list from this reddit thread
- BrickLink Studio
- LDCad
- LDraw
- LEGO Digital Designer
- LIC
- LeoCAD
- MLCAD
- MakerBrane
- Mecabricks
- stud.io
Especially this answer is helpful:
LDraw
Is a parts library. Used in a lot of the above mentioned Programs:
What is LDRAW
LDraw™ is an open standard for LEGO CAD programs that allow the user to create virtual LEGO models and scenes. You can use it to document models you have physically built, create building instructions just like LEGO, render 3D photo realistic images of your virtual models and even make animations. The possibilities are endless. Unlike real LEGO bricks where you are limited by the number of parts and colors, in LDraw nothing is impossible.

Leocad
leocad is written in C++ with qt.

First things first
A backup system contains at least one copy of all data considered worth saving.
First: My backup could be in the first scenario a simple usb disk. While I am working on building a running version of a linuxbox to which everything backups.
